Chen Huanze's album preface

Text / Li Weiming

Non occupation is to confirm the painting taste level reference in a very long historical period; in the late Qing Dynasty, the tool rationality for school, general learning consciousness fade, discipline divided clearly and fine trend; up to this day, "professional" or "amateur", seems to rise as the only standard of painting and art.

The wind to resist the tide may be silly, so there is a ancient saying called "whoever understands the times is a great man”; but here I want to point out that behind the trend of the wind, always hidden crisis.

As the self entertainment, write the heart not occupation painting spread, eventually leading to the end of the traditional literati painting, the painting of the occupation tendency is gradually to evacuate the mental content of painting, even sikll-- I mean the kind of skills in any "normal" schools can be learned, is also gradually depreciation.

Whether it is traditional or avant-garde, art has become a "habit"; the disappearance of "a sense of miracles" is the greatest sorrow of our time and culture.

With the popular words, Chen Huanze is a "amateur painter"; from gradually formed standpoint, there are many shortcomings in his painting obviously. However, in my view, it is precisely these "disadvantages" that constitute the reasons and values of Chen Huanze painting's existence and independence. His "surprise" is also the unreachable place of the "professional painters" who are full of superiority.

A clever reader can always exclude worldly prejudices, always find strange feelings in the familiar places, and get inspiration when he feels the joy of discovery. I don't dare to claim to be a smart reader, but I hope this sentence I wrote has a chance to get into the view of readers of Chen Huanze's paintings.
